A real story
The china hutch that turned into a $4,200 project.
This week a lady called, frustrated. She'd tried nine different contractors asking if anyone would install an anti-tip mount on top of her new china hutch. Nobody would.
I told her not to worry about paying me — it'd take 15 minutes, and she lived a block from my parents' house. I'd find an excuse to swing by.
Turns out it sat in a corner and I had to custom-make a bracket out of plywood scraps to mount it. Still only took 15 minutes. They were adamant about paying — I said just pay what you think is reasonable. They gave me $200.
While I was there, they asked if I could oil their fence. Looking around, I pointed at the west side of the house — all that cracked caulking and chalky, faded paint. "That needs fixed." They immediately said yes — they wanted me to do it. A $4,200 project, all because I helped with the china hutch.
